Mt. Tumalo 1/13/13

After an epic powder day at Mt. Bachelor, David and I went across the street to see what goods Mt. Tumalo was keeping.

The past week was snowy and cold, and the snow had been absolutely blower on Mt. Bachelor. We skied Mt. Bachelor all day yesterday. Today, David and I decided to go see what was going on on Mt. Tumalo. Plus, David had just mounted his new Dynafits, and was eager to try them out.

We started hiking at around 8:30am and the skin was pretty easy until we reached the summit cone. The snow became icy and the skinning was pretty tough. The East bowl had been pretty heavily skied, but the cold air had preserved the snow well. There were even a few untracked lines available to us.

The turns were bottomless. We made two laps on the East Bowl before heading back down to the car. The low-angle trees on the West Face were full of untracked, boot deep powder.

On the way back to the car David was "pulled over" (yes, while on his skis) by a snowmo cop who had some beef with how David entered the cat track. His time would have been better spent writing us a ticket for not having our Sno-Park permit displayed...we're thankful he was pulling over backcountry skiers instead.
